Chewing on paper is a favorite activity that many cats enjoy. So one of the questions we get a lot is about kitties who shred paper and even cardboard. Owners always want to know, “Is it safe?”
Well, we are here to tell you, it can be perfectly safe as long as it is done in moderation. If you’re buying cardboard and paper toys, choose ones made specifically for your pets. Read the label, looking for natural fibers and safe materials. Of course, those can be tough to find. That’s one of the reasons we came up with the Hide and Sneak. It’s a safe way for your cat to get her cardboard and paper fix without having to worry. Kitty can crush, shred and chew to her heart’s content. And when she’s completely destroyed her play tunnel, you can unpack a new one and let her discover the joy of destruction all over again.
Of course, it’s perfectly fine to give your cat a paper bag or cardboard box to play with. Just be sure to double check that you’ve removed anything your cat can swallow or choke on like tape or staples. And if won’t hurt to wipe the box or bag down with a damp cloth to remove any unknown debris. You can always add a cat attractant like silvervine to give kitty a scent-sible adventure.
But we have always wanted to offer more eco-friendly, cat-safe paper toys in the Dezi & Roo store. Simply put, we can feel better about play time when we know where the paper comes from. So I’m pleased to announce four brand new toys that are sure to find a favorite place in your cat’s toy rotation.
Joining the squid and worm wand attachments just in time for the holidays is the Cuttlefish. It is made entirely from eco-friendly, biodegradable paper and is safe for cats of all ages to play with. The cuttlefish is made from paper tassels that crinkle when they move. The sound is similar to what birds make as they root through leaves eating worms. It’s a full sensory experience that cats will love.
We also have three new ring toys: the A-lure-Ring, Flutter-Ring, and Oh-Ring. If your cat loves milk rings or hair ties, you’ll definitely want to check these out. The Rings are also made of biodegradable paper, so they’re safe for kitty to chew, chase and shred. They can be tossed across the room as-is, or attached to any wand to enhance the hunt. If you have a pole wand with string, you can simply tie the string around it. If the wand has a clip on the end, like our Wiggly Wand, it is easy to open the pin, slip the ring around it, and secure the clip closed.
We hope you’ll add some paper to kitty’s toy arsenal, and as always, let us know what you think
